This is a compilation of two Christmas-themed episodes from the revered DRAGNET police television series, featuring Jack Webb as Sergeant Joe Friday of the Los Angeles Police Department. The plots were supposedly taken from actual police files ("the names have been changed to protect the innocent"), and the familiar dum-da-dum-dum theme (borrowed from the 1946 classic noir film THE KILLERS) and Webb's stentorian narration and staccato dialogue delivery became permanently lodged in the American psyche. Individual descriptions of the two episodes follow:"22 Rifle for Christmas" (1952) - When one little boy accidentally kills another one while they're playing with a gun, the dead boy's parents give him their son's Christmas presents."The Big Little Jesus" (1953) - A priest recruits Sgt. Friday to locate the stolen baby Jesus statue from a church's nativity scene; the answer to the chilling riddle of what kind of person would do such a thing surprises even the jaded Friday.
