About this product
Product Information
Compelling six-part drama THE RUNAWAY is based on the gritty crime novel by best-selling author Martina Cole. Set in both London's Soho and in New York City, the serial spans the 1960s and 1970s, following the interweaving stories of Cathy Connor (Joanna Vanderham) and Eamonn Docherty (Jack O'Connell); childhood sweethearts ripped apart by the twisting hands of fate. Forced to run away from her care home Cathy ends up on the seedy streets of Soho, where she is taken under the wing of flamboyant transvestite Desrae (Alan Cumming). Eamonn meanwhile, becomes entangled in a life of crime and is faced with no option but to flee to New York. Fate eventually brings the damaged pair back together, but running away from their past is never going to be easy.

Fate eventually brings the damaged pair back together, but running away from their past is never going to be easy. Hot of the heels of Sky 1's last critically-acclaimed Cole adaptation THE TAKE (2009), THE RUNAWAY once again features an ensemble cast of outstanding British talent; including Ken Stott (MESSIAH), Keith Allen (ROBIN HOOD), Burn Gorman (TORCHWOOD), Kierston Wareing (THE TAKE), Max Irons (DORIAN GRAY) and Mark Womack (LIVERPOOL 1).
Reviews
Radio Times - Delivering a punch to the solar plexus in almost every scene, Martina Cole's relentlessly brutal story about a pair of childhood sweethearts caught up in the violence of 1960s East End London is light years from the gentility of MIDSOMER MURDERS and clinical forensics of a CSI.
