Installation instructions say that "if using R134a refigerant the amount required is usually 10 to 15% less than original R12 charge". That was way too much for my system (compressor belt squeling horribly) . Other R12 to R134a conversion guides call for 20 to 30% less than original R12 charge. I ended up using 25 % less than original amount to get system working.
