The small lip on the upper and lower edges (yellow arrows) make a very tight fit on the lure, and usually results in scratching the paint. I took a dremel with a 1/4" fine sanding bit and sanded down the upper and lower lip and especially the tail section. The picture shows the before (top) and after sanding of the tail section. It's a looser fit on the lure, but I prefer to just lay the stencil on the lure and paint, flip it over and paint the other side.
