Generally harder and more durable than the already excellent M35 bits, but also more vulnerable to sideways forces when used in handheld drills, rather than pillar drills or lathes which hold the bit without any "wandering". A previous M42 bit cut thru s/steel, hardened plate, wood etc for 2 years without blunting, then snapped when soft iron wire caught in the side!
