Synopsis
Young David wonders how he will communicate with this Abuela when she speaks Spanish and he speaks only English. Includes a glossary of Spanish words and the tradition of playing Loteria., How Will I Talk to Abuela? is the story of 5 year-old David who is excited to meet his grandmother (Abuela). The problem: Abuela speaks mostly Spanish and David speaks only English. In the end, David discovers that strong family bonds can transcend language barriers. The story is based on real and imagined incidences between the author's mother (Abuela), and Abuela's biracial grandchildren. David represents a composite of those grandchildren.
