About this product
Product Information
Like its predecessor, Earthworm Jim 2 follows the adventures of the annelid called Earthworm Jim. Jim once again dons his robotic suit as he battles through several levels to save his lady love, Princess What's Her Name. Earthworm Jim must fight through old and new enemies to get to the primary villain in the game, Psy-Crow. Along the way, he gets help from Snot, his trusty sidekick. Like the previous game, Earthworm Jim 2 was developed by Shiny Entertainment. One of the defining factors of Earthworm Jim 2 is how diverse the gameplay is. At their core, the majority of levels are your typical run-and-gun affair. As you play, Jim jumps, swings, and shoots whatever is in his way. Mixed between these levels, however, is an array of different game modes to play. For example, in one level, the game suddenly morphs into a trivia show. In other levels, Jim is without his suit and must navigate through a set of intestines. Even the last level, which players expect would end in a boss fight, ends up being something completely different. Jim sports a new array of moves in Earthworm Jim 2. His friend Snot can turn into a parachute, letting him glide across a level. In the games, Jim can also use Snot to stick to surfaces. While the original title only had two types of guns, the sequel sports much more. A new type of gun in this game destroys all enemies on the screen. Another gun will automatically target your enemies for you. At first glance, Earthworm Jim 2 looks very similar to the first game in the series. Spend a couple of minutes with this SNES title, however, and you'll see just how different it is. For starters, Jim sports many more animation frames than in the previous game. His movements are fluid with no dropped frames. He also has many more idle animations. This attention to detail extends to the background and enemies as well. In fact, the enemies sport just as many animation frames as the main character. They look like they belong in an animated cartoon rather than a video game. The stages are full of detail and bursting with vibrant colors. Much of the background art is drawn by hand and pops off the screen. If you already own the Sega Genesis version of Earthworm Jim 2, this version is still worth buying due to its differences. The primary difference between the two games is that the SNES version has different background art. The sound design of this version also pushes the SNES to the limits. This title is full of great music developed by the famous Tommy Tallarico, a composer who has written many pieces for Nintendo. This title is one of the few Super Nintendo games to use digitized voices as well. These voices come through clear with no distortion, letting you easily make out what the characters are saying.Overall, Earthworm Jim 2 is filled with exciting game levels punctuated by the unique humor found throughout these games. Earthworm Jim 2 is very challenging. This will ensure you get your money's worth while trying to beat it. Even after completing it, Earthworm Jim 2 is one SNES game you'll continue to play again and again.
