    About this product

    Product Information

"Legend of Mana" for the Sony PlayStation gives you the opportunity to save the world, one piece at a time. Place the artifacts on the map to create new areas with unique mini-quests. With a total of 60 items and quests to discover, the task ahead is exceptionally daunting. The game hinges on every choice you make. Luckily, you have two companions to aid you in your search for the pieces to bring Fa'Diel to life. With a release date of 2000, this fourth game in the "Secret of Mana" series was the first to be featured on the Sony PlayStation. "Legend of Mana" brings the rich world of Fa'Diel to life with charming 2D characters and detailed backgrounds. Fa'Diel is a formless mass, and it is your responsibility to create a world from it. The items you need are spread all over the land, and enemies will stop at nothing to defeat you. Quests range from the quirky comic relief Square Enix is well known for, to fun side games, to the deadly serious and world changing events often found in games in the RPG genre."Legend of Mana" takes full advantage of the Sony PlayStation and its capabilities for excellent sound and graphics. Don't be fooled by the 2D graphics present in this game; the backgrounds through which your adventure takes place are all beautifully detailed and lovingly hand-drawn. The main hero is detailed and emotive with a range of expression, and the PlayStation's high pixel count allows for even more emotive depth with each action as you play. The spell effects look amazing and all the sound and music within "Legend of Mana" are superbly done; one of the best localization teams ensuring every nuance from the original Japanese game was left in place for this Western release. The combat and character development system in "Legend of Mana" are as deep as those in any JRPG. Characters progress by finding relics and placing them on a large world map, and the placement of these items creates new lands with which you can explore and interact. These same lands also govern abilities learned for combat, from melee attacks to spells, and their placement is of paramount importance. Where and when you place these artifacts also controls which quests will be available in the characters. There's so much variety in the way these lands can be placed to progress through your game that it's difficult to experience everything in the first play-through.Combat in "Legend of Mana" takes place in real time, as is the standard for games in the Mana series. There is no turn-based battle system, so no waiting for your turn to have your actions take place. You're live in the fight, swinging your sword, casting your defensive spells, and raining destruction down from the heavens with powerful offensive magic. There are a wealth of different ways to engage in combat and perform actions, with more unlocking through the careful placement of artifacts on the board. As an added bonus, a second player can join your game and adventure with you in true cooperative fashion, standing side-by-side with you and battling to restore Fa'Diel.
