NBA Jam is another installment of the critically acclaimed NBA series. It was developed by EA Canada and later published by EA Sports. Fans loved the serious tone present in previous NBA games but were delighted by the more lighthearted approach that Jam took toward the classic American sport. It is the eighth entry in the NBA Jam series of games, and it enjoyed a 9.0 reception rating on Nintendo Power magazine. The art direction of the game is a unique fan-favorite as well since it showcases 3-D visual models with photo-realistic 2-D player heads designed to appear comical alongside extreme slam dunk poses and flaming basketballs. The game has a rating of E, meaning that it is suitable for everyone.Besides Sony PlayStation 3, the game is also available for the Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Xbox 360. Through the fun and easygoing take on traditional basketball games, players can look forward to competing against a variety of classic NBA teams, including the Los Angeles Lakers. You can choose from many famous basketball stars or line your team up with mascots to surprise your opponents and keep them guessing.You have a variety of wacky gameplay mechanics at your disposal that make the action even more enjoyable. In addition to the exaggerated artistic style, the physical mechanics are exaggerated as well. These are designed to make the intense strategy sessions even more insane. Players can jump several times above their actual physical height and slam down on the basket to defy the laws of physics and real human capabilities. You can also expect to enjoy completely unhindered sporting action as there are no free throws, no fouls, and no violations except for goal-tending and 24-second penalties. This translates to an even more aggressive play style as players can shove their opponents or elbow them out of the way to control the court. Another feature of the game is an on-fire mode. If you can make three consecutive shots, you will enter a state with unlimited turbo mode and increased playing skills.When cycling through the available modes, you can enjoy a single-player series of options or team multiplayer to challenge your friends. The single player modes include campaign options and an immediate mode that allows you to jump right into the court. In eliminations, you can have one-on-one boss battles with some of your favorite legends and use special power-ups to get your moves up and take down some of the biggest names in basketball history. Other features in NBA Jam on PS3 include unlockable characters and various Easter Eggs. You can unlock some characters by playing the game while others are available by inputting special initials and codes.
