They are either a copper alloy or an iron/steel ball coated with copper. Magnets attract these balls easily. Copper Benefits: 1) copper is softer than common tool metals and do not scratch. 2) copper does not oxidize (rust) as easily as iron metals. Copper coated balls WILL scratch because the wire edges are sharp. The coating, however, may minimize rust. So, test with a magnet. I expected this.
