I am not sure if this will limit the operating life of the heating element, but obviously this is a factory defect that never should have been shipped like this. The device was very well packed, and the flaw lies under a metal mesh which is intact so this is a manufacturing defect, not a problem with the ebay seller who shipped very fast.
