- n***a (52)- Feedback left by buyer.Past monthVerified purchaseWhile I find the very sexually graphic opening ballet sequence objectionable, the staging overall is traditional, tasteful, and well done. This is also by far the best sung DVD version of the opera. Baritone Bernd Weikl and bass Has Sotin are glorious; tenor Spas Wenkoff has occasional upper register strain but is excellent overall. Gwyneth Jones is in far better vocal estate than usual at this stage in her career, and her dual Venus/Elisabeth is a tour de force. Colin Davis conducts ably.
