Heat - British comedy at its best, The Guardian - Greig, pre-Green Wing, is a treat as the often-inebriated Fran, and Bernard's sharp observations ("Look at that face! I bet his Cornflakes tried to climb out of the bowl!") can stand multiple re-watchings. Yet it is Manny û naive, childlike, excitable û who takes Black Books to a different level. Bullied by his boss, yet unable to cope with life outside the shop, he is the perfect foil to Bernard's incredible ranting.

In this entertaining surreal comedy, Dylan Moran and Bill Bailey make a great double act, delivering the tightly written script (by Moran and FATHER TED co-writer Graham Linehan) with consummate ease, while Tamsin Greig as Fran does an admirable job of diffusing the tensions that rise between Bernard and Manny. Contains every single episode from the first three series of BLACK BOOKS.
