About this product

Product Information

As Tron, players fend off three Video Warriors in an enclosed arena. Tron and his enemies are each armed with a single disc; if Tron's disc hits one of the warriors, they're instantly de-rezzed (and a replacement warrior arrives shortly). If Tron takes a hit from an enemy disc, he's slowed down for a moment (the more hits he's taken, the slower he is during this interval) -- and if he's taken too much damage, he too will be de-rezzed and the game ends. Despite some nice graphics and interesting gameplay elements, such as the Recognizer which floats into the arena every few levels to seal off Tron's escape tunnels and attempts to crush him, the Intellivision version of Tron Deadly Discs suffers in the gameplay department when compared to the Atari VCS port of the same game. The Intellivision edition uses the numeric keypad as a "compass" for aiming Tron's disc, which often is imprecise when compared to the Atari VCS version's practice of firing in the direction Tron is facing. The vaguely 3D perspective of the game grid also adds to the confusion, with some of the player's shots missing targets that, by all appearances, they should have hit dead-on. Still, the frustrations are still outweighed by the fun of trying to overcome those difficulties and beat the odds. Good luck, programs!
