Disney-Pixar’s Toy Story Activity Center (1996) is software designed for the PC that provides users with a range of activities and mini-games focused around the Toy Story theme. The activities help players learn about specific topics and include 3D-styled animation to make the games more enjoyable for the player. There is also quality voice acting for each of the characters featured in the game, allowing children to become immersed in helping Woody and Buzz manage the challenges to complete the game. Children are encouraged to solve problems and use creative and critical thinking skills to complete the challenges alongside their favorite Toy Story characters. Multiple sites from the movie are represented in the Toy Story 1996 game, including Andy’s room, Sid’s room, and Pizza Planet. The target age of the Toy Story 1996 Activity Center game is children aged 4 to 8. The game was originally designed to be compatible with Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows ME, as well as Mac. The game is contained on CD-Rom and includes installation and basic player instructions. Toy Story, the movie, was released in 1995 and follows the story of Woody, a cowboy doll, and Buzz Lightyear, an astronaut action figure. Though the characters begin as rivals for Andy’s affection, they soon have to work together to make sure they get to stay with Andy when his family moves. At its release, Toy Story became the highest-grossing film on its opening weekend with worldwide earnings of $373 million. The film was well supported by critics and consumers alike, and ultimately received three Academy Award nominations. The original film was followed by two sequels, titled Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3. Each movie also featured many of the same characters from the original movie but expanded the world to include new characters as well. Though not originally planned, a fourth installation, titled Toy Story 4, was officially announced by Disney in 2014 and is scheduled for release in 2019. Much of the original voice cast is anticipated to return for the new movie, including Tom Hanks as Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear. The plot is said to focus on Woody being reunited with Bo Peep, who did not make an appearance in the third Toy Story film. Don Rickles and Kristen Schaal are also expected to reprise their roles as Mr. Potato Head and Trixie respectively, and Patricia Arquette has been cast in a yet to be announced role. Disney’s Toy Story 1996 Activity Center is one of a series of Activity Center games focused on different animated films that were released by the company.
