About this product
Product Information
As Mario, you defeated King Koopa, saved the princess, and caught a few superstars along the way. Now it is finally time for a change a pace in the NES race. In Wario Land II, play as one of Mario's many enemies, a greedy treasure hunter named Wario. In this sequel, Wario is immortal, which means there is no game over or level up. Wario's mission is to recapture treasure that the Black Sugar Gang of Kitchen Island had stolen from him. Through gameplay, Wario can take on unique forms such as Bouncy Wario or Hot Wario. Some of these super forms can provide advantages in defeating certain levels. You can cleverly utilize an enemy's attack skills against themselves and leave unscathed. There are also several mini-games along the way for extra fun. The main story features the notorious Captain Syrup and her minions, The Pirate Gooms, who are causing mischief at Wario's castle. They have forced their way in and stolen Wario's precious treasure trove. The anti-hero awakens after the burglars purposely set off a giant alarm clock. He then sees that they've made a large mess in his lair that he needs to fix before giving chase. The members of the Black Sugar Gang have also frightened away his favorite pet hen, who is comically named "Hen.” Wario must search the land to find his hen and stop the Captain. If you are familiar with Super Mario Land, then you’ll find the format of gameplay in this title to be very similar. This platformer offers challenging puzzle solving, and to progress, you must use both your reflexes and your wits. Locks or coins will block normal pathways, and finding your way out is only half the battle. Your character could land back at a previous spot if you land in the wrong place at the wrong time. Some platforms have hidden exits that might uncover different endings or hidden treasures. Those exits could also loosely change the course of your adventure as well as the story. If you collect all of the picture tiles in the game, you'll unlock special mini games. One fun game is an enemy version of Simon Says based on the "Game & Watch" game, Flagman. The graphics on the game are the same cartoon-style renderings that have made the franchise so popular. They have, however, benefited from a three-dimensional upgrade that keeps up with newer graphics capabilities on the Game Boy.Wario Land II: The Stolen Treasure was initially released on Super Game Boy outside of Japan. Seven months later, Japan launched games of the enhanced title. This title was supported by and compatible with the Nintendo Game Boy Color. There were new features added to the GBC video game, including backgrounds and colored sprites. This was the Nintendo platformer that would land in the United States and most of Europe. The platformer game is appropriate for gamers of all ages, and it is rated E for Everyone. It offers a great way for parents who grew up with the Super Mario Bros to introduce the gaming series to their children.
