Football for the Texas Instruments Home Computer is a football simulation that lets you coach your team to the ecstasy of victory or the agony of defeat. Although you don't directly control the catching, throwing and other actions, you do call the plays and decide when your team should run, snap, pass, punt and kick. There are eleven offensive plays (such as fullback draw and sideline pass) and seven defensive plays (such as 3-2-6 prevent and 4-3-4 blitz) from which to choose.<br><br>In addition to play calling, Football incorporates several other rules and regulations of the professional game. You can decline penalties, call time-outs, call heads or tails at the opening kickoff and, of course, score touchdowns, extra points and field goals. Each team is composed of eleven onscreen players.<br><br>Since you don't have direct control over your players, fumbles, penalties, receptions and other factors are determined primarily by three things: luck, random chance and probability. Certain plays are more likely to elicit certain responses from the on-field players. For example, interceptions occur frequently when the quarterback throws a bomb.<br><br>When setting up this game, you can name your team (up to eight letters) and choose quarter length (up to 99 minutes). The manual suggests that you may want to play solo from time to time by calling plays on offense or defense, but Football is basically a two-player game. In other words, you can't challenge the computer.<br><br>So, grab a friend, rub some greasepaint under your eyes, strap on a helmet and pads (or at least a coach's clipboard), and let the gridiron times roll.
