I had some fasteners of a smaller diameter that I could push through to get a bite. The included fasteners are brittle and can break easily so save the originals to reuse. When placing the aprons on the truck they will not conform to the frame being of a thicker plastic than the rubber flexible OEMs. I placed mine out in the sun for some 20 minutes in 104 F heat which softened them enough to align to the frame and GTG.
