Synopsis
This parody of C. Clement Moore s classic Twas the Night Before Christmas retells the story of Auburn s miraculous 34-28 win over the No. 1 ranked Crimson Tide in the final second of the 2013 Iron Bowl. Porretto posted the poem to his Facebook page never expecting the overwhelming response he would receive across social media outlets. It has now been shared hundreds of thousands of times on Facebook and Twitter. Before I could say jingle jingle, my computer sounded like the local church bell choir performing a rendition of Carol of the Bells, said Porretto. It was twittered and flickered, re-posted and shared, copied and tumblered, and tagged everywhere. Instagramed, pinterested, youtubed and meemed, and shared by more people than I ever dreamed. And then in a twinkling my phone s off the hook, and a very nice lady said let s make a book. About the Author: Chuck Porretto has been writing satirical rhyme for friends and family for as long as he can remember. He became addicted to the form while on a trip to Gatlinburg, when he and his then 7-year-old daughter Julia, and 4-year-old son Christian changed the lyrics of On Top of Old Smoky and covered it in dew. He lives in Tallahassee, FL with his wife Carol who helps out tremendously when he gets stuck, with such sage advice as Just because it rhymes with Chuck, doesn t mean you should use it. About the Ilustrator: JD Crowe is the statewide cartoonist for Alabama Media Group. His political and social commentary has rankled folks all along the Gulf Coast since 2000, when he was hired by the Mobile Press-Register. JD s cartoons and essays appear daily on al.com and in print in The Birmingham News, Mobile Press-Register, and The Huntsville Times. Despite the pleas from anonymous commenters and some of Alabama s most famous politicians, he hasn t been fired yet. JD lives in Fairhope with his wife, daughter and several furry critters.
