There ... “An oversize hardcover book with a black cloth spine, leather corners, and green cloth boards. There is scratching on the covers, heavy wear on the corners, and some library stamps inside. The book has been rebound and the binding is subsequently very tight. Pages 51-54 are present, but DETACHED from the spine. All other pages are present and securely attached. A folding color plate of Prime Minister William Ewart Gladstone, is badly torn and has been crudely but mostly repaired with tape. A black and white folding plate of an explosion at government offices in Charles Street, Winchester, has ripped in half but has similarly been repaired with tape which has since torn. Page 331 has a minor tear towards the spine. Another color folding plate of a painting by John Sturgess has prominent folds, but is in acceptable condition.”
