I was able to gently remove the chip unit from both housings after removing the front cover lid clip on .. and swap the unit hardware w/o dash removal at all ! Worked immediately.. there is a chip unit inside this piece & that is what fails over time.. in our case , almost 17 years on our 2010 civic hybrid sedan.. that's Honda original part quality but don't get me going on the civic sun visors!!
