Revamping its successful 1996 multimedia incarnation of arguably the most famous word game in existence, Hasbro Interactive's 1999 version of Scrabble comes with everything included in the first release -- and then some. As with the original, up to four people can play either side by side or via LAN or the Internet through MicroSoft's Gaming Zone (www.zone.com). The game's main object is that of the traditional board game: strategically place numbered letters to form words and accumulate as many points as possible to win the game. <br><br>Computerized Scrabble expert Professor Maven opposes you at one of six difficulty levels in one-player games and is always available to react to your moves, give suggestions and provide analysis for past games. He's even there for the mini-games, new to this version. Form as many two- or three-letter words as possible in "2-Letter Words" and "3-Letter Words"; create words based on the suffixes or prefixes already on the board with "Suffixes" and "Prefixes"; find the best spot to place a given word in "Word Placement"; determine the most effective move for a given rack of tiles in "Best Play"; find as many words as possible within a given rack with "Anagrams"; practice adding an additional tile to an existing word in "Hook Words"; or use all tiles in a rack in one word with "Bingos."<br><br>To verify the validity of any words placed, the program includes Merriam Webster's Official Scrabble Player's Dictionary, 3rd edition, which can immediately be accessed by an opponent who "challenges" the previous player's offering. The dictionary is also customizable and provides a word's definition on demand. The board itself is presented either in 2D or 3D, and there are a variety of backgrounds available.
