What she referred to as "patina" was discolored lacquer, which had been applied to the brass a long time ago, not true patina. I will need to strip off the lacquer to polish the brass. Because, from looking at her other items, this seller does not specialize in selling antiques like this box, the description could have been more accurate re. "patina." For what I paid for this box, it was a fair value. Thank you.
