About this product

Product Information

Sporting an angled overhead view of a green court, a pair of semi-realistically drawn tennis players, and limited sound effects, Activision's Tennis for the Atari VCS is a flawed game that plays more like a fancy rendition of Pong than actual tennis. The joystick moves the player near the ball, but the swinging of the racket is automatic (except on serves). The position at which the ball hits the racket influences the direction of the shot; hit the ball in the center of the racket and it will return straight, hit it to the left or right and it will travel at an angle. Neither baselines nor sidelines are enforced, and the net is never a factor. Playing against a human opponent is marginally enjoyable, but one-player games are frustrating because the computer-controlled player rarely misses.
