Reviews
Pamela Dell's biography of Wilma Mankiller is an excellent resource for young readers. Dell provides maps to clarify historical context as well as a detailed timeline of Mankiller's life. Mankiller's accomplishments as Chief of the Cherokee Nation as well as her stamina fighting a wide range of personal difficulty are clearly defined and presented in a way that makes the information easily accessible to teen readers. My reading students have a brief biography of Mankiller in their literature books, and often students ask where they can find more information about her. Now I have a ready resource in our school library for them. -Ginger Lee, Ph. D, reading and lanuage arts teacher, Ashworth Middle School, Calhoun, Georgia
