In a nutshell, nothing worked and I told the seller but got no useful response on how to fix the issue. I then fixed the problems myself and suggested a partial refund only to get a response claiming I was threatening the seller. As it now works due to my fixing it, this matter is over despite the seller.

He complained about a label that was on the player and was rude to me! I wanted to keep the player to fix it, not return it!
