Shape your PC listening experience with a Sound Blaster X-Fi sound card by Creative Labs. The SB0460 model is more than just a dedicated audio solution for your computer. This card is a sound processor that examines audio streams in real-time to refine and enhance them. Those capabilities make this product an excellent option for both gaming rigs and home theater computers alike.This SB0460 model uses Peripheral Component Interconnect or PCI to connect to and communicate with the motherboard in your computer. Note that this card requires a conventional PCI slot as opposed to PCI Express. If PCIe is all your system has, then it is still possible to connect the card using a PCI-to-PCI-Express adapter. The listening experience will be the same in either configuration. It’s also important to note that this board is suitable for low-profile slots with or without an adapter.Creative Labs shipped the Sound Blaster X-Fi sound card with drivers for Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit. This solution also supports older operating systems, such as Windows XP. In addition, Creative Labs has published a driver for newer Windows editions, including 8 and 10. In many cases, Windows will handle the driver update automatically when you install the card. You have the option of using a native driver as well.At the rear panel of the component, you’ll find a number of line-out jacks. Jack one supports headphones via a 3.5-mm plug. It also accepts inputs from left and right front speakers or a home theater receiver. Jack two lets you add rear left and right speakers for 4.1, 5.1, and 6.1 setups. It will accept side right as well for a 7.1 setup. Jack three is used to add a front center speaker, a rear center speaker, and a subwoofer to 5.1, 6.1, and 7.1 speaker setups. Note that there is also an AD_Link connector. This connector is commonly called a joystick or game port. This option is useful for playing games with a legacy controller that does not feature USB.The X-Fi sound cards by Creative support three modes: entertainment mode, game mode, and an audio creation mode. This sound card is THX-certified and supports Creative MultiSpeaker Surround (CMSS). CMSS can shape the multi-channel sound to headphones or mix up mono or stereo for multi-speaker listening. Via the Creative software, this board features a flexible mixer control. You can use it to select and mix sources, adjust master volume, separate treble and bass, adjust the balance, and so forth. This board also fully supports Dolby Digital, DD Surround Ex, and DTS-ES.The X-Fi sound card is a true audiophile solution. It even features Xtreme Music, which is Creative Lab’s proprietary solution for sculpting music for headphones as well as speaker environments of 2.1 and up. This hardware not only influences sound that originates on your PC, but it also influences streams and the like from local networking sources as well as the internet. It enables you to take advantage of hardware acceleration and digital effects as well.
