Synopsis
Excavations between 1955 and 1985 on the site of Roman Wroxeter on the River Severn in Shropshire focused on the southern part of an insula which contained the well-preserved remains of baths and a macellum. The Wroxeter macellum, which would have been the site of a street market fo over 300 years, is one of the few examples to have been excavated anywhere within the Roman Empire. Much of the volume reports on the large assemblage of finds, many of which date to the original building campaign, including coins, small finds, brooches, gems, glass, pottery and industrial and environmental remains. The volume also includes a discussion of the results of excavations in the bathhouse during the 19th-century., Excavations between 1955 and 1985 on the site of Roman Wroxeter on the River Severn in Shropshire focused on the southern part of an insula which contained the well-preserved remains of baths and a macellum ., Excavations between 1955 and 1985 on the site of Roman Wroxeter on the River Severn in Shropshire focused on the southern part of an insula which contained the well-preserved remains of baths and a macellum .
