The IR system is dependent upon having good contrast with background for detection of movement. Basically put: the microwave system is triggered by reflected radio waves . . . so it operates similarly to radar.

Had to grind down so no contact to cure earth hum on guitar amp. Good part that is a direct replacement for older offset Cliff jacks. Be aware of ground contact. May be ok in other applications. Contact not shown in advert picture.
