Synopsis
There are 200 recipes in this book, one to a page. Each recipe begins with a charming fun-to-read introduction, then the ingredients, and then the clear and accurate method of preparation. There are four categories of "unusual" covered in the book: Unusual ingredients or uses of ingredients (such as eggplant bread, cheddar cheese fudge, or simple peach soup with roses. Remember when we all thought carrot cake was unusual!). Unusual combinations (such as the salmon-chocolate casserole we invented, and green chili maple brittle, and tomato soup with bananas). Unusual preparation (such as the cake you cook from the inside out by drizzling it onto a rotisserie spit, the brownies you make in a waffle iron, or the chicken you cook by wrapping in foil, wiring it to the exhaust manifold of your car, and driving 100 miles). Unusual stories (such as the m'jeddrah which is believed to be the actual "mess of pottage" for which Esau sold his birthright, and the woman who specialized in "Funeral Jell-O" -- an interesting and unusual dark Jell-O she regularly delivered to funerals all over the South)., There are 200 recipes in this book, one to a page. Then leaf through these pages of kitchen-tested recipes for inspiration. Using recipes culled from newspaper food editors, invented in a recipe game, and adapted from published cookbooks and Internet sites, the authors offer out-of-the-ordinary dishes that are accessible to an average cook in an ordinary kitchen -- dishes that actually work. Though the ingredients may be surprising, as in Green Chile Maple Brittle, or the preparation procedures unorthodox, as in Eggs Cooked for 12 Hours in Turkish Coffee, these dishes can be served -- and enjoyed -- with pride. Accompanied by illustrations throughout, these surprising recipes inspire cooks to push the boundaries of traditional cuisine.

- e***i (159)- Feedback left by buyer.Past monthVerified purchaseGreat book for a great price. Shipped quickly, but only packed in a poly bag, so the book suffered some mild corner damage in shipping. Aside from that, the book matched the description of its condition and I’m happy overall. Great seller!
- t***t (305)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseAAAA++++ SELLER!!!! Book was shipped very quickly and item price was also good. My only complaint is the shipping packaging. This book came loosely placed in a plastic bag so I can't tell if the damage to the dust jacket happened in shipping or it was already in that condition. But, as I already stated, the overall price was good so I shouldn't really complain. Overall, I've had positive experience with hpb-ruby so I'd still definitely recommend buying from them.
- w***e (1930)- Feedback left by buyer.Past monthVerified purchaseItem arrived quickly and was exactly as described. The packaging was secure and careful, ensuring everything arrived in perfect condition. Great value for the price—very happy with my purchase. Highly recommend this seller for smooth communication, fast shipping, and overall excellent service!
