About this product
Product Information
Lost Kingdoms is a role-playing game developed by FromSoftware and published by Activision. The release date for this game for the Nintendo GameCube was May 27th, 2002. It is also backward-compatible with the Nintendo Wii. Its core gameplay mechanic is card-based battles that are fought in real time. The use of powerful cards instead of turn-based mechanics makes the fights fast. It also challenges players to rely on quick thinking and rewards fast tactical decisions. The story of Lost Kingdoms focuses on the invasion of the Kingdom of Argwyll by the Black Fog. The Black Fog consumes and destroys all life it touches. When the King of Argwyll fails to return after investigating the Fog, the Princess Katia seeks him out. She takes the castle's runestone with her. Thus equipped, she can cast spells necessary to defeat the Black Fog and those who control it. She explores her world in search of answers to the fog. She encounters many people, creatures, and monsters that have been tainted by the fog's presence or driven mad by grief. She must defeat them in combat. Along the way, she determines that her father was killed and that she has developed a rival named Helena. After Helena's defeat, she pursues the evil sorcerer known as Thalnos and his master, the God of Destruction. The combat in Lost Kingdoms takes the form of cards that represent spells and other actions. The players draw a card from the deck. The spells are set up to have certain strengths and weaknesses. Some spells are good or great against other spells in the game. This forces the player to make certain tactical decisions. Players can modify their card selection between battles by adding or removing cards. They can also get new cards by defeating enemies and buying cards in shops. Another thing you can do at shops is save your game. A card can be upgraded over time as it is used. Card upgrading takes the place of the XP system found in most video games. Sometimes a weakened enemy can be taken and added to the player’s deck. Each card is drawn at random during a battle. The player has to work with their hand over the course of the battle, drawing and discarding as needed. The multiplayer mode allows two players to square off with their own decks. This enables the players to use decks they have built in the game.Lost Kingdoms is a unique role-playing game for the GameCube that eschews traditional RPG mechanics for a fun new system. The random elements, along with the construction of decks for combat, offer a unique challenge regarding combat. The leveling up of individual parts of decks or capturing of weakened enemies is also unique. Additionally, players can put their decks to use against one another in the versus mode. This makes the campaign a training ground for later play as well as entertaining unto itself. Lost Kingdoms is an exciting game for the GameCube with lots of content. The unique combat system continues to feel fresh and new.
