Short of buying a desk mounted leather splitter, or belt sander, this is the best way to thin out leather. I’ve tried with razor sharp knives and sanding blocks, and it’s just torture and demoralizing. Vegetable tan leather is just too tough, the grains would divert the knife and either slip and cut me if I pushed too hard, cut unevenly, or all the way through the finish.
