Three more playable characters join the fray as Sega returns to the Tokyo underworld to continue the saga of reformed criminal Kazuma Kiryu in Yakuza 4. The story begins one year after the events of Yakuza 3, after two murders in Tojo Clan territory result in clashes between four powerful men over money, status, and honor. Players once again head to Kamurocho, Yakuza's fictional take on Tokyo's red-light district, but three new areas let gamers explore the city's backstreets, alleys, rooftops, sewers, and shopping arcades. The "Adventure" mode finds players taking control of Kazuma, Masayoshi Tanimuri, Shun Akiyama, and Taiga Saejima, and though all the storylines intersect, each man pursues individual goals and offers unique missions. Yakuza 4 continues the series tradition of mixing hand-to-hand combat, exploration, and mini-games, as enhanced battle mechanics and a new training system help gamers become a seasoned fighter, while activities like pachinko, fishing, table tennis, and karaoke serve to alter the action.
