Amazing book written by author when he was 100 years old about the inside story of the last ten years of Sam Houston's life including his time as Senator from the State of Texas and as Governor of Texas, by Jeff Hamilton. Houston did not wait to free his servants until June 19th, 1865 (Juneteenth holiday) but in September 1862 read President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation to his servants and worked out new paid agreements with those that stayed.
