If you appreciate video games just as much as you enjoy playing the guitar, then "Rocksmith" is for you. This learning platform allows you to strum along to your favorite tunes by playing on a virtual guitar fretboard. French video game developer Ubisoft developed the game, and it was released for the PlayStation 3 in 2011. In order to approach "Rocksmith" the way the game was designed to be played, you’ll just need the "Rocksmith" Real Tone Cable. These cables are each 11.25 feet long and are engineered to provide a bridge between your console and an electric guitar. With the Real Tone Cable, you can jump straight into the music without needing many additional accessories. You can learn scales and chord progressions, or you can start blasting your favorite hits.At the end of the cable, you’ll find a standard 1/4-inch input jack on one end that plugs into any electric guitars. At the other end, there’s a USB that plugs right into your PS3. This cable let’s you rock out to hits by The Rolling Stones, The White Stripes, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. This unique device also allows you to record what you play directly into a computer using 48 KHz speed. You can record music on computers using both PC and Mac operating systems. The Real Tone can carry up to 12 megabytes of data per second. Your PlayStation 3 can then readily handle that transfer rate correctly. This "Rocksmith" accessory will also require 100mA of power from the USB port you plug it into. In order to get the clearest audio when you record, you’ll need to configure both your Real Tone Cable and your computer. If you don’t configure these two pieces of equipment, there may be a delay between playing a note and hearing it. To change your settings to 16-bit, 48 KHz output, open your PC sound control panel and click the playback tab. Your output device should appear as the default device. First, select your device; then, set it to channel 2 stereo. Go back to your playback tab but this time, select the properties button. Among the advanced property options, you’ll find one for 16-bit, 48 KHz output. Once you’ve completed this configuration, you should be ready to record your sounds using your Real Tone Cable and your computer."Rocksmith" is a fantastic hybrid between a video game and a piece of educational software. This great and simple piece of hardware makes practicing the guitar more fun than normal, which increases your motivation to improve your skills and gain valuable playing experience. When your Real Tone Cable is set up accurately, you should be able to play each riff from your favorite tunes. The software will adjust automatically as your skills improve, which gives you more difficult phrases to play. You’ll see the notes you’re playing on the screen. You can also improve the note-detection capacities of "Rocksmith" by raising the input gain of your cable using your console’s audio settings.
