I grew up baking in my mom's cherry-colored kitchen, my little sister and I carefully following the instructions on a set of worn paper cards from my grandmother's recipe box. My family raised us on the banks of the Mississippi River, and the tradition of sweets ran about as deep in us as that river is long. So when I dreamed of my sure-to-be colorful future, it was frequently filled with the vision of running my own Rainbow Cake Café.
