Notes
The multi-dimensional story-songs of Singer/Songwriter/ Musical Ambassador, Crowmarley, reflect enigmatic and hypnotic qualities that encompass part evangelical harmonies, part wild-nature rhythms, part "other-world" and a whole lot of heart and soul throughout. Crowmarley is a modern-day experiential and experimental Troubadour, hailing from back-woods coal mining Appalachia . Her musical and lyrical compositions draw the listener into the layers and depths of extensive solitude spent in the backwoods wilderness coupled with a perceptive observation and channeling of the persons, places, and events of this Planet... and perhaps beyond. Not only is Crowmarley's music multifaceted and many layered but her life follows suit: mother, grandmother, wilderness guide, jungle visitor (coming face to face with a puma), serious and learned student of vibrational frequencies, and even "off-the-grid" yurt builder, Crow's life experiences have offered her a unique vantage point from which to create her music. CROW describes her sound as Appalachian Funk Folk Fusion. Drawing from life-long musical expressions that combine classical and jazz training, years of vocal participation in many choirs and choruses, an English degree in Creative Writing, and a deep devotion and connection to the natural environment, CROW's musical translations are at once: earth and emotion based, environmental and political, yet mesmerizing, poetic, and accessible. Crowmarley has been compared to Ani DiFranco in her boldness of style, Joni Mitchell in her jazz-like funk, and Talking Heads in her lyric-experimental nature. Add some George Winston and William Ackerman and a whole lot of original ideas and you've got the beginning of a description... CROW can make her 1991 Taylor 412 sound like three jamming guitars and in an instant play a crystal clear line of haunting classical observation. Crowmarley's music is most intriguing watched, and even more so when she brings her bass playing son, Tobias, on the stage with her. Years of hearing his mom's music - as a matter of fact, Tobias says he was "womb-trained" - has made him a right-on seemingly psychic bass player, adding yet another dimension to CROW's music that is fascinating to observe. CROW released her first CD, "many hands" in response to increasing awareness of her performances and eventually a request by her listeners to "record the music." A successful benefit ensued and "many hands" was recorded over the winter of 2004/2005. "many hands" offers the listener a journey-like experience through time, space, and relation and provides a good beginning to the varied nature of CROW's music. CROW and Tobias will be releasing 'Live From the Pourhouse' in the spring of 2007.
