About this product

Product Information

Introduced by Ian Thorpe. Juan Antonio Samaranch - "I am proud and happy to proclaim that you have presented to the world the best Olympic Games ever." It wasn't just the IOC's opinion. The memories of September 2000 when the youth of the world assembled in Sydney for the Millenium Game, will linger long. For Sydney 2000 didn't just receive universal acclaim, it was the Games that restored the people's faith in the whole Olympic movement. A global entourage of 11,000 athletes from 200 Nations, were assembled in Sydney, for sport's ultimate challenge - the quest for Olympic performance supremacy, and the medals that confirmed it. This commemorative programme captures all the greatest achievements and performances of the Australian team with every Australian medallist featured, winning gold, silver or bronze. From the glorious backdrop, of Sydney Harbour for the 1st Olympic triathlon, to the focus on 'Thorpedo' the biggest star in the pool, a 17 year-old with size 17 feet, who on the 1st night in the pool delivered the gold medal-winning, world record, in the 400 metre freestyle. The Olympic pool proved so fast that no fewer than 14 world records were broken. The track and field events at Stadium Australia, featured the athlete under the most pressure in Sydney, undoubtedly, Cathy Freeman.
