In this six hour riveting documentary, Prohibition puts into picture the history of the 18th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. This three-disc set starts with the early history of alcohol in America, and studies the temperance of the time period as well as the progressive movements throughout the century to repeal the 18th Amendment in 1933. Directed by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, this documentary dives deep into the rise and fall of the prohibition period. PBS studios included on the three-disc set nearly two hours of bonus features to make the complete Prohibition set even more stimulating. Included with the special features is a descriptive video for the visually impaired, a Spanish audio track, and subtitles. Eight extra scenes and an original music track by Wynton Marsalis add depth to the three spellbinding episodes, “A Nation of Drunkards,” “A Nation of Scofflaws,” and “A Nation of Hypocrites.” Produced by PBS in color in 2011 with stereo sound capability, Prohibition is a cautionary tale that will raise profound questions about the role of the government in legislating morality.
