Synopsis
This volume examines the history of the U.S. government's Indian education policy and the current academic issues that affect Native Americans in today's on and off-reservation schools. Though the federal government's policy of educating Native American children through assimilation or "Americanization" has long been eliminated, there are still many shortcomings in the methods that are used to instruct young Native Americans today.
