Synopsis
With humor and heart, Dancing with Elvis tells of one young woman's coming of age in the South, during a time of change in America's history., In Clover, Texas, in 1956, high-schooler Frankilee deals with a manipulative, not to mention prettier, foster sister, a boyfriend she doesn't want, and a community divided over school integration. The only thing that keeps Frankilee sane is her fantasies about Elvis Presley rescuing her., Itbs 1956 and ever since she and her mother rescued Angel Musseldorf from abusive parents, Frankilee Baxter has been miserable. Aside from being more pretty, popular, and talented than Frankilee, Angel moves in, steals Frankileebs clothing, and begins dating the boy Frankilee likes. At the same time, Frankilee is also struggling to understand her family and her communitybs response to integration. The only thing that keeps Frankilee sane is her fantasies about Elvis Presley rescuing her from life in Clover, Texas. But this sassy teenager is a realist and doesnbt wait around for things to get worse. She devises a plan to get rid of Angel, begins a local Elvis fan club, and works to promote integration. What Frankilee doesnbt bargain for is becoming involved in a burglary, an elaborate kidnapping scheme, and a shooting. With humor and wit, "Dancing with Elvis" tells of one young womanbs coming of age in a turbulent time in history.
