A true ninja's greatest weapon is stealth and this notion is emphasized in the gameplay of Natsume's Return of the Ninja. While the shadow warrior's swift katana may be more than a match for any one or two of the many enemies he will meet, these villains have a tendency to call for reinforcements if they are not dealt with quickly or avoided altogether. Even the strongest hero may be quickly outnumbered and overwhelmed. <br><br>Handheld gamers choose to play as one of two ninjas, a male or a female character, then guide the hero through several different platform levels in the order of their choosing. As the game progresses, the Ninja gains special skills based on the four elements of water, earth, air and fire, as well as the special fifth element of spirit. Eventually, the Ninja will gain amazing powers like the ability to speed across the water's surface or disappear into shadows. Return of the Ninja also features a trading game which allows players to earn special Ninja Cards in the main game and exchange these with one another using the infrared port on their Game Boy Color systems.
