Synopsis
The Tinbridge Hill history project, sponsored by the Old City Cemetery/Southern Memorial Association and funded by the Southern Memorial Association, the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, the Greater Lynchburg Community Trust, and several generous individuals, was initiated by neighborhood residents in 2009. Between August 2010 and January 2011, residents and former residents born between 1923 and 1957 met at the Yoder Community Center in Lynchburg, Virginia, to record fourteen oral history interviews. Most of the interviews were conducted in small groups of neighbors who knew each other well. One of the interviewees also wrote a memoir, as did two other former residents. Between January and April of 2011, residents and former residents continued to work on the text, discussing and adding material and revising and refining drafts. Neighbors also selected most of the images. This work, together with the interviews recorded earlier, produced all of the quoted material and most of the information and ideas presented here.
