It has a small back to it that compliments the look of the bike while providing a backstop so you don't slide off the seat. Padding is an excellent upgrade from stock seat and OEM comfort seat. I took it on a 200+ mi ride first time and my but was not nearly as sore as a half hour ride with stock seat. Once it breaks in, it will be much more comfortable like any other seat works.
