About this product

Product Information

"Illusion of Gaia" is a traditional RPG developed by Quintet in Japan for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Distributed by Nintendo, it is part of the Soul Blazer games and is highly regarded as a unique and engaging role-playing game for the SNES. This game takes place in a fantastical version of Earth, where players explore ancient historical sites and world wonders in an effort to discover the mysteries of the Tower of Babel. Set in the Age of Exploration, the game focuses on exploring the world and ancient sites. There is also a strong influence on the ancient beliefs and mythologies endemic at such places. The story of "Illusion of Gaia" focuses on Will, the mysterious sole survivor of an expedition to the Tower of Babel. It begins with Will having a vision of Gaia warning him of an approaching comet. Will must stop the comet before time runs out. On his adventure, Will is granted the power to transform into Freedan, a dark knight, and Shadow, a solid form of energy. With such powers, he can uncover the secret of the comet. On the way, he seeks help from local guides and encounters other characters who help or hinder him.As gamers play through the story, Will visits locations such as the Great Wall of China, the Hanging Garden of Babylon, Angkor Wat, and the Egyptian Pyramids, as well as spots like a local castle and an ancient diamond mine. Will must search these places for a great Gem, which will enable him to stop the comet. Most of the enemies in "Illusion of Gaia" are based on ancient mythology, including chimeras and dragons, as well as re-interpretations of Babylonian gods. "Illusion of Gaia" is unique in its depiction of ancient gods. The game does have some minor changes in each version for each market, making the game more accessible and culturally sensitive.Rather than a traditional RPG system that is based on turn-based combat supplemented by weapon and item use, "Illusion of Gaia" has only one item present, healing herbs. It is the only role-playing game on the SNES without a currency system. Rather than leveling up, Will collects a red jewel from each enemy defeated. Will can then take each red jewel to a jeweler to unlock new abilities. He can also use them to enable him to restart his adventure after losing a fight. This method of play means that "Illusion of Gaia" places a greater emphasis on the plot, which gamers will enjoy. Considered to be among the most memorable SNES games ever made, "Illusion of Gaia" is a game coveted by dedicated SNES fans and collectors of Nintendo games. The game is an exemplar of its genre with the ROM being popular among game collectors. The North American Nintendo released version of the game is very popular due to its excellent translation and presentation on the SNES. Nintendo wanted "Illusion of Gaia" to show that the localization of games was possible. "Illusion" is a standout example and has gameplay that folks will enjoy.
