In Dust: A Tale of the Wired West, you become The Stranger, a drifter in the Wild West of 1882 who gets into a poker game with The Kid and has to flee after impaling his hand for cheating. When you wander out of the desert and into the fictional town of Diamondback, New Mexico, you are in desperate need of a gun, bullets, boots and a drink, all thankfully available in the town.<br><br>You roam throughout the town, staying one step ahead of bandits and gunmen and uncovering both a Native American mystery and corruption in the form of the town's mayor. During exploration, you'll come across places and various aspects of the old town that need investigation such as an old lost Spanish silver mine, Yuni vengeance, humor and puzzles.<br><br>The town is filled with all sorts of characters including Jackalope Jones and his girlfriend, trapper Mountain Laurel, the good girl/lady of the evening, Ruby, the madam, Oona Canute and The Kid himself.<br><br>You are assisted in the game by the manual (printed on the game jacket) and a mysterious oriental with the eponymous name of Mr. Help. The manual offers help on loading and firing the gun and how to access and use the options screen while Mr. Help can give you hints as to where to acquire various items, albeit at the cost of being called "Stupid!"<br><br>You can recognize both specific people in the game (e.g., Doctor H. Rodham) as well as various characters modeled on either famous actors who have starred in westerns or various character types who usually appear in westerns (the jovial bartender, the hooker with the heart of gold and so forth).<br><br>Can you survive in Diamondback? Or will you end up in a coffin on boot hill, bait for vultures and rattlers? Come and find out in Dust: A Tale of the Wired West.
