Its spindle speed of 5,400 RPM means installing a Toshiba MK8026GAX offers up to a 12 percent speed increase compared to typical 4,200 RPM 2.5-inch laptop hard drives. This Toshiba hard drive features a fluid dynamic bearing motor, which provides increased reliability while reducing operational noise. Compatible with Windows computers equipped with IDE Ultra ATA100 or ATA-6 interfaces, the 3.94 x 2.75 x 0.37-inch drive dimensions make it a suitable form factor for use in a range of laptops. Besides a higher spindle speed than many OEM drives, upgrading to a Toshiba MK8026GAX improves performance through its 16 MB buffer and 12 ms average seek time. While an internal 80 GB hard drive designed for portable computers doesn’t usually last as long as similar capacity desktop version, this Toshiba hard drive has earned a 300,000 hours MTTF (mean time to failure) rating; it will likely outlast the computer it’s installed in.
