The lotion is the color and consistency of water and petroleum jelly (which are 2 of the main ingredients) when you pump it into your hand--- be careful, as it can shoot out rather quickly; when you start to rub it in, it turns white and into the consistency of lotion/sunscreen (the white disappears as you rub the lotion in).
