Notes
Margie Baker grew up in the Fillmore District of San Francisco. As she skated up and down Fillmore Street she heard the voices of Billy Holiday, Nat King Cole, Dinah Washington, and Billy Eckstine streaming from the record stores and soda fountain juke boxes. Most African American music during that era was only heard in African American communities and was referred to as 'race music'. The City of San Francisco has recently named the Fillmore District as it's Jazz Preservation District because of the wondeful 'race music' or classic rhythm and blues that was so popular in the night clubs and dance halls there in bygone days. This album pays tribute to this great music and to the artists who performed it.
