As it turns out, one end is suitable for graphics card PCIe connector. The other end is CPU connector. My Corsair power supply will feed into the CPU connector however the wires are wrong (the connector shell fits but the GND and 12V are swapped by my PSU). This is not a fault of the cable (5 stars all around). Confident that I can depin and repin to suit my PSU.
